Variety Show Sign-Ups

These are the sign up sheets for helping at the Rockette Variety Shows.  As was mentioned at the parent meeting and in the Constitution, each family is required to work five hours total during these two nights.  Obviously every parent wants to see their daughter perform, but without everyone doing their part, this cannot run smoothly, or some parents are left with too much work.  You may need to sign up for a few jobs to fullfil your hours. Please check the categories below and see where you can fill in as needed.  Either contact Lisa, Dawn or Cathy to have your name added in a category.

Booster Club Meeting, March 2, 2010

Meeting held at Salem Library.  Meeting started at 7:00 p.m.

In attendance:               Lisa Vance                   Vicki Liddane

Kim Benintende            Barb Hunsaker

Tom Engle                    Shirley Johnson
Tom Arnold                  Tracey Arnold.

Financials:

  • A deadline will be set for unpaid balances.  For March invoice it will be sent out on the 15th of the month and payments in full for all balances will be due by the 31st.

  • For the cost of food for show, money will be added to each invoice and then items will be purchased.  Amount determined will be decided at the parent meeting.  By doing it this way we will avoid having too much of one thing and not enough of something else.

  • Show fees add up so it was suggested that a memo be sent out
so that families know an estimated cost idea pertaining to this.  This cost will include Tickets, costume, Banquet cost etc.

  • A ditto was passed out regarding where the Rockette Team stands with financials for the year.

Rockette Show information:

  • Food for show this year will be chips/snacks and drinks.  Last year their was too much food and it did not all sell.  It was decided we will not have any hot food this year.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Lent have volunteered their time and snow cone machine again this year.  It was a big hit last year.  Thank you Lent family!   Lisa will check if it will be for both nights of show or just one evening.

  • Barb Hunsaker has volunteered to do the program for show this year and would like another volunteer to help her out.  Please contact her as soon as possible if you can help with this.  Lisa said she will get her “budget” for this as soon as possible.  It was talked about having colored photographs for the program this year if it could fit in the budget.

  • Sponsors from the Golf Outing will be posted in the Program.

  • It was decided that each girl will have to sell 10 tickets to the show.  This will be a cost total of $30.00.  If the $30.00 is not met in each girls ticket sales it will have to be paid the difference in cash.

  • Tickets will be sold one color for student tickets.  $3.00 each
and another color for Adult tickets at $5.00 each.

  • At the parent meeting volunteer sign up sheets will be posted.  Every family has to volunteer and work at least one evening at the show.

  • Shirley Johnson has volunteered to Chair the food for the Varsity Locker room.

  • Tom Engle and Jason Vance have volunteered to do Friday ticket sales.

  • After Show on Saturday the team and families will again have a chance to celebrate at Palermo’s.  Lisa said she will look into reservation details.

  • Please check the Rockette Calendar for the next scheduled Parent meeting coming up.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50.

Salem Rockette Booster Club Meeting

 January 5, 2010

Attendance:

All officer members present.

Guests to meeting were Cathy Donaldson, Vicky Lent, and Tom Arnold.

Meeting opened at 6:35 in the Salem High School library.

NATIONALS:

  • National shirts have been decided upon.  These will be black shirts with a v-neck and white stripes on the sleeve.  The final design was created from a combination of entries that were turned in.  Coach Heather and Lisa Vance made the final decision.  The back of the shirts will have the girls signed names on it.

  • Order forms will be handed out very soon and will need to be returned ASAP with a check included.  A Shirt order will not be placed unless the order is accompanied by a check.   The cost of the shirt will be $20.00.

  • Discussion took place on the “window decoration” for Nationals.  The booster club vote was a Silhouette Mini Mouse head with bow and neck.   These will be sized to be able to fit into your suitcase and you will be responsible for decorating them before Nationals.  Dawn Ziegler said she will cut them out but it is a lot to work on so she will ask for help as needed.

  • Noise makers of some sort will be looked into.  The general consensus was to bring your own little container and fill it with small pebbles when you get to Florida.

  • Vicki Liddane has volunteered to paint a sheet for us to hold up in our section while the girls compete!  Thank you Vicki!  If anyone else is interested in painting a sheet please contact Dawn Ziegler.

  • Food:  A $20.00 fee will be charged to accounts for food for the girls while down at Nationals. This will be for breakfast on Saturday morning, Olive Garden dinner   Friday evening and pop and chips for the girls from Sam’s club.  This will also      possibly include a Subway order for Sunday lunch if they perform. It was decided that for all of this the $20.00 fee is very reasonable.

  • Permission slips for School regarding the National Trip will be handed out at the
next parent meeting that will be held on January 12th.  Salem Library at 6:30.

KIDS CLINIC

  • Kim Beintende has been working hard getting the Kids Clinic event in order.   It has been noted that the website information has got to be changed with her information on it rather than the information going to Michelle Pankow.  This change will be worked on.

  • Kim is also working on getting the best quotes for the pamphlets that will go to the Elementary and Middle Schools.

  • The fee for the child to attend is $40.00 and this will include a tee-shirt, poms and a snack.

PALACE COMPETITION:

  • The girls will be getting a food voucher included with their ticket.  More information to follow soon regarding competition details.

ROCKETTE VARIETY SHOW:

  • All parents are required to volunteer to help with the show (See Constitution).  A parent meeting will be scheduled a few weeks before the show to plan and get the show ready.

  • Kim Beintende is still looking into quotes for the video.

  • Barb Hunsaker will be looking at prices through Canton community TV for a video quote.  This will have to be decided upon soon.

The next parent meeting is Tuesday January 12th.  This will be in the Salem Library at 6:30. This is a Mandatory meeting for Varsity parents with lots of final information for the National trip.  JV parents are welcome to attend however, it is not mandatory unless you have something you would like to have addressed. The next Booster Club meeting will be March 2nd.  This will be in the Salem Library at 6:30.

                                    Booster Club Meeting

                                       December 1, 2009

Meeting began at
6:45 p.m.  Salem High School Library

Attendance:  Dawn Ziegler, Lisa Vance, Kim Benintende, Barb Hunsaker
Vicki Liddane, Christina Fogoros, Stacey Kim, Tom Arnold,
                     Tracey Arnold

On behalf of the Booster Club and Team, Coach Heather and her family are being kept in our thoughts and prayers as they are going through a difficult time with the loss of her grandfather.

New Business:

·        Meeting opened with Stacey Kim having a question regarding the tickets for the Palace Game.  It was noted that if tickets are purchased later or own your own at the door you may not get tickets for the same game and your seats would not be with the group.

·        Kim Benintende looked into video pricing for the Rockette Show for this year.  She knows a person who would do it for $400.00 for one night.  The DVD price would be $20.00.   No final decisions have been made regarding this yet.

·        Kim also asked the Booster Club if signs could be made for the Kids Clinic with the Rockette Logo on it.  This would be showing where to go from the parking lot.  The sign would be like the golf “sponsorship” sign.  This would cost $25.00 per sign.  The booster club thought this was a good idea and will bring it up at the parent meeting.

·        Varsity Representatives were approached by parents with concerns on how the team is being run and coached.  It appears an anonymous letter was sent to the Athletic Department.  The Athletic Director has stated that letters kept anonymous will not be addressed.  It has been suggested that the Handbook of Rules and Regulations be copied and passed out at the next parent meeting.  Questions regarding the coaching of the team can go through the proper protocols to be addressed.  It was questioned whether or not current coach Heather was planning on coaching the team next year or not.

·        Nationals Tee Shirt:  It was decided that any of the Varsity girls who are interested can design a tee shirt for Nationals.  This design will be picked and decided upon at the Christmas Party !  More details to follow.

·        It was suggested that money be put aside into an account for circumstances such as bereavement.  A final decision was not made at this time.

·        Kim Benintende has offered to host a “before Nationals” parent get together at her home.  If possible this will be looked into further at a later date.

Palace Competition:  This will be the Pom only routine.  Details on where to meet will be discussed at the Parent meeting.

The parent meeting will be on
December 8, 2009 at 6:30 pm in the Salem Library.  Please note:  The golf fundraiser meeting will follow this meeting.

The next Booster Club meeting date will be posted in advance on the calendar and will start at
6:30 pm in the Salem Library

Meeting adjourned:

Attendance:  Lisa Vance, Dawn Ziegler, Tom Engle, Kim Benintende,  Barb Hunsaker,

Vicky Liddane, Shirley Johnson,  Lynn Bricker, Christina Fogoros, Stacey and Kim Koo,

Tom Arnold, Tracey Arnold.

Corrections addressed:

·               Tom Engle's correct phone number is (734) 507-6875.  At this time he will be taking

over the  full responsibility of the Rockette Finances.  He has been asked to look into the

finance sheets and get the ledger into an organized format.  He will present this as soon

as he can.

·                    The monthly bill sent to each Varsity family has a line “total balance due.”

This pertains to the “total balance due for National Competition.”

New Business:

·                      No practice for Varsity Team Thanksgiving week M-Th.  Technique class usually held

on Thursday will possibly be rescheduled for another date due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

·                  December 12th will be the Rockette Team Christmas party.  Details to follow.

·                   Poster Night will be for the Lake Orion UDA Competition only.  Parent/Teacher conferences are

being held the  evening we had planned on using the school.  It has been decided for everyone that

wants to participate they can make the poster at home and bring it up to the school on Thursday evening

before the Competition Weekend.  These posters have to be taken down by Friday or else the

School Maintenance  staff will dispose of them.

·              Kim Benintende knows of someone who can do the Rockette Show video and

will look into getting a quote.

·            also suggested Canton Township may also do videos that would be aired on the

Local Access Cable Channel.   They may do a video for our team.

Lisa Vance said this will be looked into.

Mid American Competition at EMU

·                               It is suggested to be there at 8:00 when the doors open.  The girls will be performing #5 JV and #9 Varsity.

Discussion took place on what changes could be made to make the Overall Team a more positive experience,

and  the Booster Club a more effective mechanism to communicate information to

all parents of girls on the team.

Meeting closed at 9:05

Recording Secretary,

Tracey Arnold

* Added note:    There will be a poster making night on Wed., Nov 18th at 6:30 - 8pm in the

They will not be hung in the hallway at school until Thursday evening, and need to be removed on Friday.

September 9th 2009

Meeting began at 7:15 p.m

All officer members present.

Michelle Pankow thanked everyone for attending and welcomed Cathy Donaldson who joined the meeting this evening.

New Business:

·        The meeting began with an inquiry on having a “suggestion box” or a comment sheet possibly enclosed with the monthly bill statement.  This would be for confidential feedback and comments that hopefully would be constructive.  This suggestion will be taken to the parent meeting.

·        All present at the Booster Club meeting voted for Michelle Pankow to purchase a program to download music from the internet for the team to use.  This program will be kept with the Rockette team for future use.  This program will allow everyone to get the music the team uses off our website instead of the Coach having to burn every CD for each girl that wants it.  This will cost between $50.00 and $100.00.  Having this program will be a lot easier for the Coaches, team and cost effective in the long run.

·        It was voted by all present that Treasurer Tom Engle should turn in his expense sheet for ink and paper he uses on a regular basis for monthly invoices that go out to all.

Fundraisers:

·        Little Caesars pizza kit order forms have already been passed out.

·        Cookie Dough will be in a few weeks (October 13). This is a mandatory fundraiser and information will be passed out at the next parent meeting. Each tub of cookie dough will cost $10.00.  Each child on the Rockette team will have to meet their obligation of selling 10 tubs.  This is per girl, not family.  If they are not sold a fee of  $10.00 per tub not sold will be charged to your monthly statement.  No exceptions.

·        Please fundraiser chairs keep all information you have regarding heading up your fundraiser current with the Booster Club Presidents on a regular basis.  Letting the Presidents know what you are doing helps keep things run smoothly for all.

·        It has been noted that another person is needed to help chair spirit wear.  Please volunteer your time if you can help with that.  If you can, please let the Booster Club Presidents know as soon as possible.

·        A suggestion was noted to possibly sell Rockette Fleece Blankets for the football season.  It may be late to do this now but will be something to discuss at a parent meeting and something to think about in the future.

·        Poinsettia sales will be coming up in November.  These are absolutely beautiful plants and will definitely not disappoint !  The Booster Club sets the price of what we will sell the plants at and we can make a good profit from this.  Any suggestions on where to sell them at would be helpful.

·        Maggie Moo’s fundraiser went well !
Last year the team made $90.00.  This year the team made $403.00 !
Great job girls !!  The first night $130.43 was made. The second day 127.33 and Saturday afternoon made $55.69. Tips of $90.00 were made and that has been included in the final total. Summer evening hours worked best so the team will keep that in mind for the next time a Maggie Moo’s fundraiser is done.

Amending the Constitution was discussed again.  There seems to be some vague wording regarding payment of fees.  This will be looked into.

It was also noted what can be considered a reasonable time frame to make events “mandatory”.  This will be discussed further at the parent meeting.

Discussion took place on having a “routine” each year that all of the girls learn and can do it really well!  Getting a routine down, knowing it and knowing it looks great and helps build confidence.  This routine can be used when a “short notice” event comes up.  The girls can perform this routine and really feel good about it.  The coaches and captains will look into this suggestion.

Thank you Michelle Pankow for hosting this meeting at her home.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m

August 25, 2009   Parent Meeting

Meeting called to order at 6:31pm to order by Michelle Pankow.

See sign in sheet for attendance of parents.

Michelle Pankow thanked everyone for attending.  The meeting for this month was scheduled at the administration building in the Freedom room because we were unable to get a room at the school.  All future meetings should be at the school.

On Labor day the girls have been invited to perform (both Varsity and JV) at Concordia University for the softball team.  A member of the team lives by Aileen and it was passed along to Heather.  We were unaware of the time, but it was on Labor day.  Since we were just finding out about the event, it was not mandatory.  Heather and Liz will take a count of all the girls that are available to participate.  It was also decided that Heather will take the girls that do participate to Buffalo Wild Wings as a “thank you”.

Team pictures will be taken on Friday, September 18th.  We did not have a time yet, we just know after school.  They are to wear their competition uniforms.  There will be envelopes to purchase pictures.

Physicals are due September 1st.  If your daughter has not received one this must be done in order for the girls to stay on the team.  It is a school rule that they have a current physical (dated after April 1st of the current year) on file with the athletic department.  If you need a physical the Urgent Care doctor next door to Maggie Moo’s has agreed to do them for $25.  You just need to inform them that you are with the Salem Rockettes.

We are going to be able to get into an elementary or middle school for practices so the girls do not have to always practice in the hallway.  Unfortunately, we are not able to get into the schools until 6pm.  Therefore the practice schedules have been adjusted.  The schedules are as follows: Varsity Monday 5-7:30pm at the High School, Tuesday and Wednesday 6-8pm at an elementary or middle school and Thursday 5-7:15pm at Elite Dance Force (technique); JV Monday 5-7:15 at Elite Dance Force (technique), Tuesday and Wednesday 6-8pm at an elementary or middle school and Thursday 5-7:30 at Salem High School (on game days they will end early and walk over as a team)

We will be performing at all home football games (or away games that are played against Plymouth and Canton), some home soccer games and three competitions.  In November we have two competitions.  One is scheduled for November 8, 2009 at Eastern Michigan University, this is for Mid American Pom Pon and it is only in the morning.  The second one is for UDA and will last all day.  Unfortunately, they have not scheduled a day yet.  Our UDA representative said it is normally the first weekend in November (which would make it November 7, 2009), this is how it has normally been in the past except for last year.  Therefore we can not give a definite day yet.  The other competition will be January at the Palace.

The girls will be performing at Fall Festival.  We have not heard back from Canton or Plymouth if they would like to do a kick line with all three schools like in the past and then each team Varsity and JV performed a number.  We will definitely be performing a number.  As of right now the girls are to meet there at 11am, be reminded that the time may change.

Each year the senior girls on the team are recognized along with their parents at a football game.  This year it appears that we will have to do it early in the season on September 25th.  We only have one more home game after that and it is the homecoming game, which there would already be too much going on.  If this date changes we will let you know.

The jackets for the warm ups have been ordered and are at the embroider, the girls should be receiving them soon.  The pants should be ordered soon.

We have some upcoming fundraisers.  Thank you to everyone who went to Buffalo Wild Wings on the 23rd of August.

The car wash for Walgreens that was cancelled has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 13th.  The Rite Aid car wash has not been rescheduled as the meeting date, but Rhonda was working on that.  Check the calendar for updates.

In October we will be selling cookie dough.  It will start on the 13th of October and Rhonda Hotz will give out all information at the next parent meeting.

Angi Kinsaz talked about the Max & Ermas fundraiser.  It is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th.  You can get a certificate off of our website by clicking the certificate button on the left hand side.  If we have $1000 in sales we will receive an additional $100 in Max & Erma gift certificates.  Rhonda also mentioned that you could order a Max & Erma gift certificate from scrips and get extra money into your account.

Angi also talked about October 12th, which is a Monday their will be a “Girls Night Out” fundraiser at Carl’s Cabin in Plymouth.  It will cost $5 to get in.  Their will be vendors (for purses, jewelry, make-up) there that are donating a percentage of their sales back to the Rockettes.  If everyone brings one friend it should be a good success.  Shirley Johnson was doing up a flyer and it should be sent out soon.

It was reminded that for each fundraiser that you can earn money back into your own account that you will receive a credit voucher for the money that goes into your account.  You can not use the money until you receive a credit voucher.  For example if you buy scrips and will receive $12 back into your account, Rhonda (that fundraisers chair) will send a master list along with the credit voucher to the person handling the accounts.  That person will send it to you with your invoice, you will then return for it to be applied with any additional payments that are due.  Please remember you can not use your credit until you receive the voucher.

We made approximately $11,000 from the golf outing.  We are still working on final figures, but it was a great success.  Thank you to everyone that helped and participated.  If anyone would like to help out for the committee for the golf outing that would be great.  All three parents that ran it are Senior parents and will not be coming back next year.

Last thing to mention was that there were going to be “cuts” made for football, soccer, basketball, and local competitions.  This was always done in years past and the current coaches are reinstating it.  It is not meant to pick on a certain girl or put them on the spot.  It is more meant as a motivation tool and for the girls that are not working hard, whom the coaches have had to continuously talk to about attitude or absence to have to sit out.  If your daughter has to sit out for one or especially more than one you as a parent should talk to the coach to find out what is going on and how you can help to improve the situation.  The coaches need us to work with them.

We also talked about that this is a new year some people had concerns about last year with Varsity and the problems.  Someone noted that some girls were writing negative things on myspace.  It was said that this was not from any current members.  Please check your daughters this is not acceptable.  We also discussed to talk to the girls in a positive way about the team.  Not to talk about anything negative in front of them.

If anyone ordered merchandise at the picnic and have not received it Colleen Hynes had it in the back of the room.

The meeting then ended for JV.  We were going to continue talking to Varsity about Nationals.  JV was welcome to stay if they wish and are invited to come if they wish.

Varsity will be going to Nationals.  Everyone will be going.  There will be no cuts made for Nationals.  But if your daughter is showing signs of not participating, giving attitude not working hard, the coach will be contacting the parents.  She will asking for help in correcting this problem before we attend nationals.  We are asking that you work with the coach and your daughter to correct any problems.

Nationals is February 5-9, 2010 in Orlando Florida.  If you would like to read any of the rules, guidelines or what the package entails you may go to the UDA website.  A cancellation form was sent around that a parent for each rockette needed to sign.

Everyone rockette must have a parent or guardian that travels with them.  The rockettes airfare is paid for by the team.  The travel as a team.  You are more than welcome to fly on the same plane.  Once it is determined which airline and the times you will be notified so you may purchase airfare on the same flight.  We stay at the Disney All Star resorts.  Last year it was the Music, year before Sports, UDA sets up which hotel.  The prices again this year are $427 for a quad room, $466 for a triple, $550 for a double and $773 for a single.  Your package includes your room for four nights, admission to all the competitions, a four day park hopper ticket for the parks, transportation for all the events and to and from the airport,  admission to special events for UDA (after hours at a park) and two meals.

A deposit of $100 for each person traveling is due next month.  You need to give Michelle a total of how many people in your family will be traveling.  If you do not give her a number she will only put your daughter and an extra (a parent or guardian that needs to attend with your daughter) on the invoice.  This deposit is non refundable.  The remaining balance will be due on or before November 15, 2009.

There will be some additional costs that we will get into more when it gets closer, but we purchase t-shirts.  The girls each will be getting one and if you or anyone traveling would like one that will be extra.  As well as we collect a food amount we purchase dinner for the girls for Friday night (their bonding dinner), as well as breakfast foods for the next two mornings and lunch on Sunday.

Next parent meeting is scheduled for October 13, 2009.

Meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.

Vicky Liddane, Kim Benintende, Barb Hunsaker, Tracey Arnold

Meeting opened at 7:45

·         2009-2010 Rockette Booster Club officer position sheet passed out along with a list of Fundraiser Chairs.

·         Michelle Pankow opened the meeting discussing team funds.

o   Currently we have $28,406.15 in the account.

o   $11,000.00 profit was made from the golf outing fundraiser vs $7,000.00 that was made last year.

o   This leaves approximately $13,000.00 in the account.

o   The team still has several things to pay for such as sweat outfits and new poms have been ordered.  The new poms will cost $880.50.  They are greatly needed and will be metallic blue and silver.

·         August 24 will be the first official technique practice at Elite Dance Force (EDF).  Technique classes will be on Monday for JV squad and Thursday for Varsity.  They will be held from 5:00 to 7:15pm.

·         Practice during the school year will be Monday – Thursday   from 5:00 to 7:15pm at a location to be determined.  Instead of using the hallway at Salem High School, Michelle Pankow is looking for the team to use a Middle School gym.

·         Possible Friday practices will be discussed at the upcoming Parent meeting.

·         The parent Representative of JV squad Vicky Liddane said she would look into setting up a possible “car pool” plan for those girls who need it.  That would be a great help to many of us.

·         Please take note:  It is now REQUIRED that all girls arrive to practice 15 minutes early to stretch on their own or arrive at 5:00 stretched, warmed up and READY to go.  Class time is too short to warm up there.  Routine work, running, etc. will start at 5:00.  If you do not warm up before on your own injuries will occur.  It is SO important you come to practice stretched, warmed up and ready to go!  Please understand and do not take this lightly, this is VERY important.

·         Physicals are usually due at the end of August.  A head count will be done to see who still needs physicals.  If you have a physical form filled out please turn it in to Coach Heather as soon as possible.

·         It has been noted Amendments need to be looked at and possibly revised or stated more specifically.

·         Job Requirements, roles and responsibilities need to also be more clearly defined.  This will help parents do their required job more efficiently and effectively.

·         It was noted team Captains jobs need to be clearly defined as well.  The team Captains need to work closely with the Coach.  Captains need to keep the coach fully informed on what they are doing with regards to the team at all times.  Decisions need to be made with the consent of the Coach.

·         Upcoming Car Wash will be August 22.  Everyone should have received a schedule.
Please note:  Parents cannot work their daughters scheduled time frame.  It was discussed a fee may be determined if a Rockette has to leave a required event early.  This fee will be billed to your monthly statement.  Remember to talk to Coach Heather in advance if you have a conflict.

·         Because of the scheduled Car wash fundraiser the Rockette team will not be required to attend the Football Team picnic at Heritage Park.  It was discussed that in order to show our support for the Salem Football Players we would purchase a sheet cake from Sams Club and deliver it on behalf of the Salem Rockettes!   The sheet cake will be purchased out of the team budget.  Vicky Liddane offered to deliver the cake to the picnic.  Thank you Vicky!
