ROCKETTE CONSTITUTION
The Rockette team is a team just like any other sport. Hard work, dedication, and team effort is expected. Member makes a voluntary choice of self-discipline and self-denial. This simply means that certain sacrifices are made, for example – extra time. Failure to comply with the coaches and team rules may lead to removal from the squad.
Rockettes are responsible for knowing and adhering to all the rules.
1. PURPOSE
A. The purpose of the Rockette pom/dance team is to promote and uphold school spirit.
B. All Rockettes must represent Salem High School to the highest degree.
C. Team members must set an example of good behavior at all times (whether in uniform or not) in class, at games, and at all school functions, whether performing or not.
D. Team members must promote friendship with the cheer team, schools with which we compete and most importantly friendship between members of the team.
2. REQUIREMENTS
A. ROCKETTES MUST TAKE PRIORITY OVER ALL OTHER EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. This includes jobs, dance classes, other dance competitions, recitals etc. If someone should miss due to a SCHOOL function (i.e. plays, school trips), it is the responsibility of the Rockette to clear the dates through her coach and receive the approval for her absence. It will also be the responsibility of the Rockette to learn what they have missed on their own time. If the Rockette is unable to perform, it will be up to the discretion of the coach whether or not she will be pulled from the routine. X_______
B. All members are expected to participate in the following;
a. Canton Liberty Parade & Plymouth 4th of July Parade
b. Summer Camp

d. Home football, soccer and basketball games
e. All competitions
f. Fundraisers – (2) car washes, bottle drives, ice cream sales, kid’s clinic, cookie dough sales, community service, selling advertisement/tickets for the Rockette Show
g. Participation in the Rockette show
h. Seniors must assist in the following year tryouts
i. Each Rockette family is required to volunteer a total of (10) ten hours, (5) five hours for the Rockette show and (5) hours throughout the year. If you do not volunteer, your account will be charged $100.00. X_____
C. Rockettes must maintain good citizenship marks, attendance, class performance, and teacher recommendations during the time on the team.
D. All Rockettes must maintain a minimum grade point average of a 2.0, with no D’s or E’s at progress report and card marking. If you receive below a 2.0 or receive a D or E in a class you will be placed on probation. This means that you will not be able to perform in any performances, whether they are football, basketball, soccer or competition routines, until the minimum academic requirements are met. You will be responsible for getting weekly progress reports to give to all your teachers if GPA is below a 2.0 or in the specific class in which you are receiving a D or E in. It is your responsibility to give these progress reports to your teacher on Friday, have your parents sign them and they must be returned to the coach on the following Tuesday. X_________
E. All team members are required to attend and participate in ALL fundraising activities. These fundraisers are developed to help to defer costs that come up throughout the year. Your account will be charged $30.00 for each fundraiser that you do not participate in. X_________
F. All Rockettes must go through the same tryout process as all new candidates. Being on Rockettes one year IN NO WAY GUARANTEES PLACEMENT ON EITHER TEAM FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR. Placement for each team is strictly based on ability level. (Example – being on JV for 2 years does not qualify for automatic placement on Varsity).
G. Alumni Rockettes – Salem graduates that have been on Varsity for at least one full year.
3. CONDUCT
A. By accepting the privilege/honor of wearing a Salem Rockette Team uniform, a girl accepts the fact that her actions are more prominent than those not associated with such an activity.
B. Because of this prominence and because members represent the school, exemplary behavior is mandatory at all times, anywhere in the community of Salem High School and at all functions where girls are recognized as representatives of the school.
C. Proper appearance is required at all times, with clothing appropriate to the occasion.
D. Members must not use foul language at practice, in school, at games, camp, competitions, etc.

I. The good of the team always comes before any one individual. No one is irreplaceable or indispensable.
4. PRACTICE
A. Proper attire for practice is a t-shirt or tank top, shorts or sweats, poms, jazz shoes and tennis shoes with good support for running.
B. PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY!! Do not schedule work or appointments during practice times. If a practice is missed for a recreational event (other than school activities), it will be up to the coaches discretion whether the Rockette will be out of the next team performance. X_________

G. Extra or longer practices will be scheduled, if needed during competition and preparation and Rockette Show. During the competition weeks, we practice Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. During the Rockette Show, we practice Monday through Thursday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm. You will be expected to miss any recreational event (outside of school activities) during these additional practices. X_________
H. If you are unable to be at practice or an event, excuses go to the coach only. This call must be place at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of practice or the event. You must explain to the coach why you will not be at practice. All calls are to come from the girls! Unexcused absences will result in the inability to perform in the next performance. THIS WILL ALSO RESULT IN A DEMERIT.
I. Missing a scheduled practice the day of or before a game may result in the individual not performing for the game. This will also result in a demerit.
J. Missing an added practice at which major routine changes are made, may result in not performing for that event and/or a demerit.

6. ACCOUNT SHEETS
A. A copy of your balance sheet will be mailed to you and you will receive it by the 1st of each month. It will be your responsibility to send in any balances, whether you mail it or your daughter gives it to the coach, by the 15th of each month. If your balance is not paid in full by the 15th of each month, your account will incur a $5.00 late fee and an additional $5.00 for every 15 days after the due date until your balance is paid in full.
X_________
B. If you have a credit on your account, you will receive a credit voucher. You must turn this voucher in along with your check. Example – If you sold pizza kits and receive a credit of $55.00, the person in charge of pizza kits will send you a credit voucher for $55.00 along with the information to the person doing the accounts. When you receive your balance sheet, it will show only the amount due, no more credits. If your balance is $100.00, you will write out a check in the amount of $45.00 and attached your credit voucher. We will apply the credit only then and adjust your balance. If you have a credit voucher for $55.00 and your balance is $35.00, you must make a copy of your voucher, ask to apply $35.00 of your credit and keep the copy to apply the remainder of your credit at a different time. F. It is your responsibility to have your account paid in full by the date determined prior to the Rockette Show. We have the right to hold your daughter’s diploma until your balance is paid in full.
G. Please address all issues concerning your balance sheets to the person handling our accounts. This person will then contact the coaches with your concerns.
H. Our coaches are compensated through our general fund. It is through our efforts with fundraising that makes this possible. Both the Varsity and Junior Varsity coach’s air fare tickets are paid for with the general account.
If it is in the best interest of the squad that an individual not perform or that she be removed from the team, this action will be taken by the decision of the coach, with the assistance from the administration if necessary.
I have read the above constitution and I fully understand and agree to the terms. By signing below, I agree to uphold the honor of being a Rockette.
